The Albany Traditions paint collection comprises beautifully classic colours carefully selected for Albany. The paint colours reflect a timeless appeal for colour which has endured at Brewers for more than a century.
The revised paint collection introduces a selection of colours complementing the ever popular grey palette. Popular today, but very much rooted in the history of interior design, grey tones have been used by the Victorians, Georgians and Edwardians.
The new paint colours vary from the light grey tones of Steyning and Fritham to deeper moody tones of Witham and Ashtead. Sutton Benger and Wembury introduce an element of drama to the pallet through the introduction of rich purples.
Moving away from the grey tones, new paint colour Puncknowle widens the popular whites palette by bringing an aged white to the collection. In contrast, the dramatic Litlington adds a fresh modern edge to the paint palette.
The range is evocative of days gone by and personifies major design styles and architectural themes from history through to the present day.

Earthborn were being asked constantly for a smaller size paint pot perhaps due to a direct effect from the growing trend for ‘upcycling’. The new 750ml paint pot size is perfect for weekend decorating projects such as painting furniture or creating feature walls. Here is Earthborn’s step-by-step guide to painting furniture: Step 1: Inspiration First of all, find your inspiration. Paint is an easy way to give character to your home. Perhaps you have a piece of fabric which you love the colours of and want to recreate or translate to a piece of furniture. Or a photograph of somewhere you have travelled to and want to capture the essence of? Step 2: Surface Preparation Previously painted furniture should be given a light sanding to provide a key to help the paint stick. No need for a primer! If painting directly onto untreated wood you can use the Claypaint as a primer by thinning it with 20% water. Step 3: Applying paint Stir 750ml pot well with an old spoon or stick. For larger pieces of furniture apply paints with a roller or brush depending on the final texture or finish required. If using a roller, opt for a mini roller, which will help to reach difficult corners or detailing. Step 4: Make a cup of tea Depending on the look you want to achieve you may want to apply a second coat in another colour, so whilst the first coat dries, why not pop the kettle on? Step 5: Special finishing effects Why not use a piece of sandpaper on older picture frames with a stronger base coat colour, and a lighter topcoat for an interesting paint effect? By lightly sanding off patches of painted finish on raised areas or edging a lovely distressed look can be achieved.

Trend alert! Stripes are officially in this Spring so you may want to consider using this trend on your walls at home. Painting stripes isn’t as hard as you think but if you need some help follow our quick guide: -First choose your colours and plan your stripes (do you want wide, narrow etc.) and if your existing colour is a strong colour you may need to paint the walls white first (this prevents colour showing through). Begin by painting the whole wall in your main colour in the recommended number of coats and leave to dry. Using a measuring tape to divide the area how you want use a pencil to mark out your stripes, now check they are straight with a spirit level and apply masking tape to your pencil lines. Paint your stripes in your second colour by applying the paint using a small roller working from top to bottom taking care not to overload the roller as the paint may bleed under the masking tape ruining your efforts. Apply your second coat if applicable and leave to dry thoroughly. Do not remove the tape too soon as this will mess up your hard work so when you are completely sure everything is dry carefully remove the tape. If you have had any accidents simply tidy up using a small paintbrush.

Mylands, Britain’s oldest family-owned and run paint and polishes manufacturer are celebrating their 130 year birthday in 2014. You may not have heard the company name before but you will certainly have been seen their product on the television and silver screen. Starting in 1884 Mylands founder, John Charlies Francis Myland set up his first shop in Stockwell, South London selling french polishes, spirit varnishes, oils and pigments. He also opened a factory and began manufacturing paints and polishes. Mylands has been at the heart of the British film and television industry from the very start of moving pictures. Even before the emergence of Pinewood Studios in 1935, Mylands was an established name within the British film industry. Many of their emulsion paints are still made to original formulations using natural earth pigments, a rarity in current paint production. This gives their paints a unique quality ideally suited to scenic construction, which is why they are widely used in theatre, film and television to this day. Here in the present day Mylands is now in the safe hands of fourth generation family member Dominic Mylands. Authentic and pure, their colours are modern but rooted in tradition. Equally suited to both classic and contemporary interiors, Mylands colour palette comprises 120 timeless shades available in a comprehensive range of interior and exterior paint finishes.

Farrow & Ball have announced their key paint colours of 2014. Cooking Apple Green, Stiffkey Blue, Purbeck Stone and Mole’s Breath, bring us back in touch with nature and are their key paint colours of 2014. Gathered from either the seashore or the landscape they are easy to use and create quietly stylish but ultimately comfortable homes. Cooking Apple Green reflects both nature and the enduring appeal of the seemingly more organic folkloric customs of the past. Cooking Apple Green is an uplifting colour, especially when used in combination with the slightly lighter Green Ground. Crisp All White offsets this scheme perfectly if used on the ceiling. The colour is clean and comforting, not challenging us in any way and creates an uncomplicated haven in which to live. Reminiscent of the extraordinary colour of the mud found on a beach in Norfolk, Stiffkey Blue perfectly encapsulates the natural trend. The strength of this deep blue will create a fashionable dramatic interior, contemporary and relaxed, so perfect for use in both urban and country settings. Use in isolation in small spaces, with Hardwick White on the ceilings to create a moody feel that reminds us of slightly brooding, squally seas and skies. Alternatively it can be used in a more light hearted fashion on a feature wall in combination with Light Blue or Setting Plaster. These beautifully easy colours feel faded and natural and are the perfect antidote to the intense colour of Stiffkey Blue. For a relaxed and versatile scheme, Purbeck Stone is a stronger neutral - neither too gray to be edgy and uncomfortable, nor too creamy to feel out of date. Create a layered scheme which will flow throughout the home, with Purbeck Stone walls, Cornforth White woodwork and Ammonite on the ceiling. The minimal aesthetic of this combination will promote simple, calm, easy living. Mole’s Breath is a strong drab which feels like an old friend, and can be used to slightly soften the most contemporary of architectural settings alongside glass and steel. Mesmerising when used on walls and woodwork, with Shaded White on ceilings, creating the most beautiful play of shadow and light.
